On 31st August, tornado strength winds wreaked havoc on Ashburn Polwarths and neighbouring properties near Carrick in Tasmania.
In the morning, Gil and Dawn Walker were confronted with a scene of devastation as dozens of mature-aged trees were uprooted by gale force winds. Fencing around the property was destroyed and a small group of sheep were killed sheltering under a tree which fell.
The scale of destruction was overwhelming for Gil and Dawn; however, they needed to act quickly to repair fencing to secure the sheep in a couple of the less damaged paddocks. In the ensuing weeks, Blaze Aid crews have come in to help with the cleanup and repair of fencing; however, the clean-up will take many many months. The pics below show the massive trees uprooted in the storm and damage to fencing.
