Josh Wiltshire together with his partner Sam Edwards run Murrawooda Polwarths at Mount Pleasant, South Australia, alongside Texel sheep and Charolais and Galloway cattle.
Josh grew up in Mount Gambier, SA in a stud seed stock environment with his family. Pursuing a career in food, Josh studied food and beverage science at Adelaide University through the Regency Park campus in Adelaide. In his early years, Josh managed a privately owned chain of bakery outlets throughout Adelaide. Josh stepped away from retail food production in early 2000 and moved to CSIRO in the seed breeding and production unit at Waite Campus as a laboratory technician, gaining valuable experience within the food system.
For the last 22 years, Josh has been livestock manager at Carlton Nitschke Investments at Hahndorf, SA. Carlton is a seed stock producer of Shorthorn cattle and Prime Samm sheep on a property spanning 18,000 acres.
With an interest in agriculture, Josh has judged cattle across Australia with highlights in Tasmania and the ‘red centre’ Alice Springs. In recent years, Josh has continued to judge both sheep and cattle at local, royal and interstate shows. Josh has a passion for education of young judges and is an executive member of the Agricultural Societies Council of SA and the young judges’ competitions.
Josh also has a passion for psychological sciences and holds a degree in Meta Psychology. This knowledge has been valuable at school education days, where Josh and partner Sam, teach primary and secondary students the art of judging, handling and public speaking in South Australia.
With the experience and knowledge of other breed societies and committees, we welcome Josh to the executive committee as President and look forward to the year ahead.
