Polwarth Sheepbreeders' Association of Australia

Polwarths-Australia's big, heavy wool producing and meat sheep-were first breed as three-quarters Merino and one-quarter Lincoln. The breed was established in 1880, with the Polwarth Association formed in 1918. The stud book was closed in 1948 and since then the breed has maintained its genetic purity.

Polwarths are easy-care sheeep which give very high dollar returns per hectare. They do well under a very wide range of conditions, produce heavy fleeces of high-value wool, good trade carcases, and are excellent lamb mothers.

Run successfully throughout Australia's sheep areas, ranging from over 40 in. rainfall country to the semi-arid pastoral areas.
