Polwarths – Australia’s big, heavy, wool producing and meat sheep were first bred as three-quarter Merino and one-quarter Lincoln.

The breed was established in 1880, with the Polwarth Association formed in 1918.

The studbook was closed in 1948 and since then the breed has maintained its genetic purity.
